Agri-Spouse Friday - Week 14

Welcome back to our Agri-Spouse Quilt Along.

We had a good Halloween. Even though the kids were still sick with their colds, they had a great time trick or treating. We had a Red Royal Princess:

And a blond Harry Potter:

They also had a great time at a Halloween party at their Tae Kwon Do place on Saturday night. Rhylee is finally just about over his cold and Brianna and I are on the mend as well.

I have pictures this to show this week. We are all busy with life and get caught up when we can. So I have Suzanne's Postage Stamp:

And Marian's Postage Stamp:

And Suzanne's Streak of Lightning:

From last week, Suzanne's Cut Glass Dish

And another of Suzanne's Cut Glass Dish:

Suzanne's Star Gardener:

Suzanne's Four Winds:

And Marian's Puss in the Corner:

And last, but not least, Marian's Box:

As I said, a fair bit of catch up! Nothing from Mom this week but I haven't talked to her so it is entirely possible that she has the same cold/flu that is going around. It has been two weeks for us and while we are on the mend and lots better than we were, we still aren't all better here so I certainly would not wish this on anyone.

This week we will do two new blocks, neither of which have HSTS! The first block has been all over the blogger world, although I did not participate in the craze. Our second block is very similar to the first block except that we start with a smaller square and do an extra couple of rounds.

We will start with Block #29 - Economy.

Cut one green square 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Cut two orange squares 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Cut two green squares 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".
Cut the two orange squares and the two larger green squares once each on the diagonal.

Centre the long edge of the orange triangle RST along the edge of the small square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Centre the long edge of another orange triangle RST along the opposite side of the square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Lay your ruler along the side of the square that you haven't sewn on and trim the ends of the triangles off. Do the same with the other side of the square.

Next centre the long side of an orange triangle RST with the unsewn side of the green square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.Centre the long edge of the last orange triangle RST along the last unsewn side of the green square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.

Trim the square you have now sewn to 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".

Centre the long edge of the large green triangle RST along the edge of the orange square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Centre the long edge of another large green triangle RST along the opposite side of the orange square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Lay your ruler along the side of the square that you haven't sewn on and trim the ends of the triangles off. Do the same with the other side of the square.

Next centre the long side of a large green triangle RST with the unsewn side of the orange square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Centre the long edge of the last large green triangle RST along the last unsewn side of the orange square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Trim your block to size and you are finished the first block for this week!

Our second block this week is Block #44 - Gentleman's Fancy.

Cut one purple square 2 1/2" x 2 1/2".
Cut two blue squares 3" x 3".
Cut two purple squares 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Cut two blue squares 4" x 4".
Cut two purple squares 5" x 5".
Except for the small purple 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" square, cut all of the rest of the squares once on the diagonal.

Centre the long edge of the blue triangle RST along the edge of the small purple square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Centre the long edge of another blue triangle RST along the opposite side of the square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Lay your ruler along the side of the square that you haven't sewn on and trim the ends of the triangles off. Do the same with the other side of the square.

Next centre the long side of an blue triangle RST with the unsewn side of the purple square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.Centre the long edge of the last blue triangle RST along the last unsewn side of the purple square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.

Trim the square you have now sewn to 4 5/8" x 4 5/8".

Also, photographic evidence that we all make mistakes. One of my triangles was not placed RST so I then had to rip out the stitches and sew it back on correctly.

Trim the square you have now sewn to 6" x 6".

Finally, trim your finished block to 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" and your second block is finished!

Once again we will follow along a theme for the blocks in the next few weeks so we will be doing a bit more of this sort of piecing.

See you next week!
